Order in the bedroom

Order in the bedroom

The bedroom is the most personal and probably the most important space in our home.

Adult bedrooms

It is the most personal room since we do not usually have a social life there.

Everything we do in this space is meant to rest. The mess will make us generate stress which will affect the quality of our sleep.

On the other hand, this space is where wardrobes or dressing rooms are usually located, and where two main problems often arise: a lack of order within them and an excess of clothing due to the accumulation of items that have fallen into disuse.

It is essential to reverse this process that we have been carrying out on a daily basis and turn it into an orderly space without elements that we do not need, which generate visual noise and they create tension for us by preventing us rest properly.

Children's bedrooms

I'm fascinated by children's bedrooms. It's incredible how much influence they can have on children when they acquire the habit of being organized. This habit encompasses much more than we imagine.

Article by Ana Aznar on order in children's bedrooms

It is very interesting an article published on this subject by Ana Aznar on the web www.hacerfamilia.comIn it he argues that:

“Order is the foundation of all virtues; it makes virtue possible. It is also the first habit a child can acquire, since their sensitive period occurs between the ages of 2 and 6, and is the foundation upon which all other habits are based. The first thing a child must learn is the material order of things; then, this habit will allow them to know how to organize their time and thus be happier; and, finally, these habits of order will probably contribute to a more fruitful and happy life.”

We cannot instill order in children in unordered environments and in fact, these environments must serve as allies in two ways: first external manifestation of the being of children and also their first responsibility.

Once a child is organized in their own room, they can learn to be organized in other spaces and in other personal aspects, but the beginning is here, in their room.

In projects that include children's rooms, it's essential to organize these spaces by teaching children to adopt the habit of order, which will be transferred to many aspects of their future lives and will enrich them tremendously.

James Clear's book on order: "Atomic Habits"

Regarding this topic, it is worth remembering the author of the book “Atomic Habits”, James Clear, which gives us some insight into the strong influence our environment can have on our personal development. Perhaps the most relevant quote in this regard is:

"Stop thinking of your environment as a place filled with objects. Start thinking of it as a place filled with relationships."

For example, studying or resting in a distracted environment makes it harder to complete these tasks, and we'll likely do them less efficiently. On the other hand, if you want to start eating healthy, it would be very helpful to leave fruit in plain sight so that when you see it, you'll be reminded of your decision to start a healthy diet.

This author teaches us how to use our environment to our advantage to begin developing habits that will ultimately become an intrinsic part of who we are. Perhaps it's time to recall another excerpt from the aforementioned book, which reads:

"We are the result of our habits. Understanding their mechanisms and facilitating our conscious decisions brings us closer to our goal."
